Andrew Cunningham is the Founder and Managing Director of Darien Analytics Ltd, a UK-based consulting firm that focusses on governance, risk and regulation in both developed and emerging markets. He is the non-Executive Chairman of ARC Ratings Ltd and ARC Ratings S.A. (which are regulated by the FCA and ESMA), he consults for the IFC’s Middle East Corporate Governance Programme, and he has recently led the writing of Guidance Notes on Digital Finance and on the Management of Extreme Risks which are being published by the Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions in Bahrain. He writes a monthly column for the Dubai-based news portal AGBI.

    Andrew is based in London and is proficient in Arabic, French and Greek.

    Until December 2024, Andrew was the Editor in Chief of the London Arab Bankers Association and in that capacity produced Arab Banker magazine. He has been a visiting professor at the London Institute of Banking and Finance. Andrew previously conducted consulting assignments for DEG, the German development agency, CDC, the British development agency, and he advised the United Nations Development Programme and the Mauritanian Ministry of Finance on the creation of a national Zakat scheme.
